Market

Every now and then there's a small lovely market on one of the main squares of Turin. You can find all sorts of local and handmade products there. There are some clothing stands and lots of cheese, bread, rice and vegetables stands. I love to see the passion of those people.

Muesli Scones

When Roberto and I were in Leiden (Holland) we went to a small local market.
It was a heaven for me, and even more for Roberto, because he loves to discover new cultures and traditions (my traditions! ^^).
We found so many nice stands, with cheeses, bread, veggies, so many flavours and different people.

I just love Holland.
(and I miss it).

Well, at one stand we bought a "Mueslibolletje" which Roberto doesn0t fail to mention at least once a day. I loved it too, I love muesli, so I tried to make up a recipe for the mueslibolletjes, which became more "Muesli scones" because of their shape.

I swear he was writing down everything he loved of the city, just to remind himself why he decided to study Dutch with a teacher like me.

Muesli (Granola) scones

Ingredients.
2 eggs
200 ml milk
2 cups wholemeal flour (250 gr +-)
1/3 cup sugar (65 gr +-)
2 1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp salt
85 gr margarine, cut into cubes
3 cups muesli (granola)

Directions.

  • Preheat the oven at 200°C (400 F).
  • In a large bowl whisk together flour, sugar, baking powder and salt.
  • In a smaller bowl whisk one egg and 100 ml milk.
  • Add the egg and milk mixture to the larger bowl and add the margarine.
  • Knead the dough and add the muesli.
  • Divide te dough into some trangles (I made 5 of them).
  • Place onto a baking sheet.
  • Beat the second egg with the remaining milk and brush it on your scones.
  • Bake for 25 minutes.

I must say they turned out great. I am looking forward to making them again, but I have so many things on my "to bake" list.

Have a nice evening!

This period isn't the most easy for me, but I this little blog is a peaceful, lovely place, where I don't want to put my problems in.
Soooooo, I made Strawberry Jam with real real Strawberries from my mother's garden!
Only with strawberry, sugar and lemon zest. So easy and so quick!

Strawberry Jam.

600 gr Strawberries
300 gr granulated sugar
zest of one lemon.

If you want a fluid jam without pieces of fruit, you have to wash the strawberries and put them in the blender until a soft strawberry cream has formed.
Note: your jam will not be very consistent, as you are not going to add any pectine.
Otherwise you can just cut the strawberries in halves.
Put the three ingredients into a big saucepan and bring to boil.
Don't stop mixing with a wooden spoon, in order to save your saucepan and yourself from a long night washing up.
You will see when the consistency is that of normal jam, you can pour the jam in a jar, let it cool for at least an hour.
Keep refrigerated, or use the jam on fresh-baked bread. ^^

Yesterday, Roberto and I went to a market, where we found a lot of fresh fruit and vegetables, AND a stall of bioproducts. I bought Tofu (going to eat it today!) and 100%spelt pasta!

Today, we went to San Lorenzo al Mare, a little town on the coast. It's the town I dream to live in: no cars, a lot of colours, and a place I would love to bring up my children.

We had a coffee and then, after a walk and a look around, we decided to have something to eat in a cute little restaurant (the waitress wasn't cute or little at all, ahah!).
Look who's dreaming while waiting for his Spaghetti:

Bye my two readers!
